This is the largest Spring Capture of its kind done by the Church in the DRC. The NGO that did it is directed by Adrien, counselor to Russell Mbaya, Stake President. It was originally done by other entities first in 2004, then repaired in 2007, but each time it was heavily damaged by heavy rain runoff from the surrounding eroding hills. This time the structure should withstand flooding by channelling runoff down each side of the enclosure. I posted photos some time back of the damaged spring before construction.

Notice the flood barrier and bypass channel.

Panorama of the structure. Photo is distorted by the pan.

The spring is heavily used by the very dense surrounding population. These are temporary pipes in place during construction. Notice the police officer present to prevent conflicts over place in line.

Members of the community water committee there to observe construction nearing completion.

Water flow is very heavy even though we are in the dry season.

Yes I was there to document progress.

Walls are embedded with glass shards to prevent damage by users walking on them.

Walking up this incline is difficult without a bucket of water on  the head.

View from the top of the gorge.

Erosion on the surrounding hills that caused previous attempts to fail.

Hard to resist photographing the children. The little girls often have extensions.

In the midst of poverty, a postage stamp garden to beautify the dirt courtyard/

A small school run by a local member who requests that the Church construct a latrine for the children. The mural is painted by the government.

The courtyard of the school which has a total of 800 students, between two sessions a day.

Kids who live adjacent to the school yard.
