GRADUATION, SALVATION ARMY WILLIAM BOOTH UNIVERSITY

We were invited by Hugh Matheson to attend a graduation of The Salvation Army, William Booth University. The Vice Rector is also the Director of the Real Estate Board for Kinshasa. Hugh is developing land in Kinshasa and is negotiating contracts with the director and thought we might like to meet him. We arrived early an hour after it was announced to begin. It began an hour after our arrival. If you have been to Africa, you understand.

Hugh with Dadi whom he has hired for his assistant.

Technology is key for success in the DRC.

The brass band. All the musicians finally arrived in time for the two hour late beginning.

The empty stand for the officials.

Another in the collection illustrating my fascination with African Footwear. Wearers can't run in these, and the lengthy toe box requires a high-lift walking gait.

The honored guest who later received an honorary Doctorate. I loved his cane. He is a long-time official in the Salvation Army and supporter of the University.

The assembled family and friends of the graduates.

The stand with the assembled dignitaries and academic Deans.

After each group officially is pronounced graduated, a crowd of friends and family gathers, amid shrieking whistles and spray foam.

The Doctorate recipient and the dignitaries. Roger Bimwala stands second from left with the microphone. He conducted the graduation. He is an academic with business management degrees who returned to the DRC from a teaching post in a European university to help his homeland.

Interesting head gear, a billed cap reversed on the wearer's head.

The cane.

We left before the crowds and were conducted on a tour of the University facilities.

Following the graduation this newly constructed room and another were to be dedicated.

This large multi-purpose room was to be dedicated.

Lovely chair covers.

More chair covers.
