MORE LIFE IN POINTE NOIRE

Sue at the computer in apartment in Pointe Noire. We live in the SocoPrise area, near the Ecole 5 Fevrier, by the Forage d'eau, numero 64, Rue Mvu Mvu. Without the landmarks noon can find addresses.

Our favorite vegetable seller in Pointe Noire.

Sister Bailey and Sue in the kitchen at the apartment in Pointe Noire, Republic of Congo.

Sue in her hasmat suit for washing dishes to prevent bleach water on the clothes. The apron is oil cloth material cut to shape and made into the apron. The lab coat came from home and the rubber gloves are purchased locally.

Baileys and missionaries at the get-to-know-you dessert social.

Missionaries and desserts.

Everyone is there. Baileys, Elders Baker, VanAusdal, Morin, Brockbank, Garland, Lundberg, Johnson, Hatch, the Bybees.

The missionaries asked us to help a recent member move some security grates to his new home under construction near the ocean. I didn't quite know what we were getting into.

The grates being loaded.

We were parked to the side of the road in the middle of a major marché with heavy foot traffic and vendors on the side of the road complaining that we were blocking business. I snapped this just in time to get a nice shot of this well dressed African.

After loading the grates they asked if we would mind if they tied some aluminum roofing on top.

Because of the load we took back "roads" not too long after a heavy rain.

A few puddles along the way, some requiring wending our way around them through very narrow alleys.

The wind folded back one of the sheets of roofing that cost 45 dollars each, so they tied them together.

Tying the roofing together.

At the building site a neighbor will guard the material for our member. The grates had shifted and wouldn't come out of the bed so we had to undo the clamps and lift the canopy in order to extricate the grates.

The house under construction.

Undoing the clamps.

The grates unloaded.

Stowing the materials and replacing the clamps.
